I don't get the reasoning here. Karl Malone has no scoring or rebounding titles, but he's a former MVP and current Hall of Famer because of his scoring and rebounding. He was #2 in both categories for many of his seasons, and people recognized that. Being #1 in one category isn't better than being a little further down the list in more than one category.

LeBron is a top scorer, rebounder and passer, which is a very rare combination. Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson had a similar balance.
